Colum Eastwood To Stand Down As SDLP Leader
Colum Eastwood is to stand down as leader of the SDLP, stating that he "wants to give someone else a chance" to re-energise the party.
Mr Eastwood, who has been party leader for 9 years, made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday, 29 August.
Stating that the "moment has come" for him to step down, he will officially resign from the role at the party conference on 05 October. This will allow the SDLP to select a new leader to take over the role. Eastwood will remain as MP for Foyle, and said that he would now focus on representing his constituency and working with the New Ireland Commission – a body he established to explore Irish reunification.

Colum Eastwood has been voted to be the new leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP). Mr Eastwood defeated Dr Alasdair McDonnell in a vote at the party's annual conference at Armagh City Hotel. He is the youngest ever leader of the SDLP and he won leadership with 172 votes to 133.

Former SDLP MLA Tommy Gallagher Injured In Fermanagh Crash
A former SDLP Assembly member is currently receiving hospital treatment following a serious road crash in Co Fermanagh. Mr Tommy Gallagher, aged 75, was involved in a collision between a car and a lorry between Kesh and the Boa Island Road on Monday afternoon, 12 March.

Paul Quinn: Conor Murphy Issues Apology
Finance Minister Conor Murphy has issued an apology over claims he made that an IRA murder victim was a criminal. Paul Quinn's family accepted the apology but said it doesn't meet their request of clearing their son's name. The 21 year-old from Co Armagh was beaten to death in Co Monaghan in 2007.
