Bogus Caller Tells Pensioner He Was Sent By A Priest
A bogus caller attempted to enter the home of a 90-year-old man by pretending he was sent by a priest to give him a blessing.
The incident happened on Monday in a rural development outside Lurgan.
The man's 87-year-old brother was also in the house at the time.
However, the caller did not get into the house and a neighbour reported the incident to the police.
Police in Craigavon are urging people to put up 'No Cold Caller Stickers'.
A PSNI Officer said: "Cold callers will use any excuse to get in through the door of people's houses as this example clearly shows – using the Church as an excuse to prey on two elderly and vulnerable gentlemen.
"Thankfully nowadays people are more clued up about cold callers. We still have valuable members of our communities that are vulnerable for various reasons and may need that extra wee bit of support from those around them."
