Three Men Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Three men have been convicted for claiming benefits they were not entitled to at Belfast Magistrates' Court.
John Kavanagh from Dunmurry claimed Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit totalling £7,045 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £400.
William Ewing from Belfast claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £4,213 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £400.
Alan Tynan, 44, from Newtownabbey claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £3,172 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £400 and given a one-year conditional discharge.
All are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
New Sure Start Building Opens In South Belfast
A new Sure Start building in south Belfast has officially opened.
The newly-refurbished building in Belvoir will be used to create a community Early Years hub for the whole community.
Education Minister John O'Dowd said: "We all recognise that quality early years leaning and development have a direct positive impact on a child's educational outcomes in later life. This builds on the very first learning done at home from birth and provides a solid basis for every child's continuing learning journey.
"By supporting parents and carers in their role as first and ongoing educators the Sure Start Programme provides a significant contribution to this process."
Sure Start programmes are specifically designed to reflect and respond to the needs of the local community and having these new facilities will bring much added value to the area.
Minister Called To Address Mobile Phone Coverage In The Glens
SDLP East Antrim Assembly Candidate Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop has called on the Enterprise Minister to address the continuing problem of mobile phone coverage in the Glens area. Both EE and 3 networks have been down for several days leaving many people unable to communicate.
Ms McKillop said: "The quality of mobile phone reception in Cushendall and the surrounding areas is often abysmal and unfit for purpose. Intermittent breakdowns have exasperated the situation and have left people in an impossible situation particularly those trying to conduct business in the area.
"Telecommunications are not good at the best of times and new investment in infrastructure is badly needed to end the substandard service which is all too often taken as the norm."

Three benefit frauds from across NI have been handed down gaol sentences for defrauding the Government of money to which they were not entitled. James Logue (45) of Main Street, Castlederg was convicted at Strabane Magistrates' court after he claimed Housing Benefit totalling £2,057 by making a false statement of occupation.
