Skills Fair To Be Held At St George's Market
Belfast City Council is to host a Skills Fair at St George's Market as part of the Belfast Festival of Learning, in association with Belfast Strategic Partnership, on Wednesday 9 March.
Visitors will be given the opportunity to find out about a range of skills, careers and courses – visiting four zones at the market based around 'Leisure, Well-being and Beauty'; 'Creative, Digital and Media'; 'Travel, Food, Culture' and 'Languages and New Horizons'.
Activities on offer at the Skills Fair will include cookery demonstrations; hairdressing; make up for stage and screen; circus skills; genealogy and arts, crafts and quilting. Attendees can also sample archery, tai chi and Hawaiian dance. There will be an opportunity as well to get tips on successful job seeking with CV and interview skills' sessions.
Among the exhibitors at the event will be Titanic Creative Management; Fablab; Belfast Cookery School; the Textile Studio; Co Couture; Teach Craft Therapy; Quirky Creations; Streetwise Community Circus; Belfast Met; Ulster University School of Criminology, Politics and Social Policy; Community Arts Partnership; Colin Glen Trust; Prince's Trust; DEL and Belfast City Council's Economic Development and Waste Management Units.
Launching the event at St George's Market, Councillor Deirdre Hargey, Chair of Belfast City Council's City Growth and Regeneration Committee, said: "Among our objectives to grow the economy of the city is to enhance the skills of our workforce and collaborate with key partners on skills development.
"The Skills Fair at St George's Market next week will enable attendees to find out more about advancing their current skills or learning new ones through sampling or undertaking different courses and careers. I would encourage people to save the date and get down to St George's on 9 March."

Employment and Learning Minister Sir Reg Empey stressed that skills development, quality education and training was vital to the success of the local ICT sector. The Minister was addressing delegates attending 'One Year On', a conference hosted by e-skills UK, the Sector Skills Council for IT and Telecommunications.
