Mother And Daughter Rescued From South Belfast House Fire
A mother and daughter have been rescued following a fire at their home in south Belfast.
The incident happened at a property in Kirkistown Walk in the Belvoir area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Firefighters attended the scene and led the mother and daughter to safety.
A spokesperson from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said: "The fire involved an oil tank which quickly spread to a bungalow, which was in a row of terraced houses. This was a severe fire and the property has been destroyed. Smoke Alarms were fitted and alerted the occupants to the fire.
"Firefighters worked quickly to prevent the fire from completely destroying the adjacent properties but six other houses have also been damaged in the fire. An adjacent property had a pigeon coup and unfortunately 22 pigeons perished in the fire with eight surviving. Another property had severe damage to three garden sheds."
The NIFRS has launched an investigation.

An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.

A mother and daughter have died following a house fire in County Tryrone at the weekend. Elizabeth McGirr, 71, and her daughter, Deirdre, 38, died in the blaze at Dunlea Vale, Dungannon, at about 10pm on Saturday. It is understood the mother, who lived nearby and had recently suffered from a stroke, was visiting her daughter when the fire started.

Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.
