Man To Appear In Court Following Drugs Seizure In Ballymena

A 45-year-old man has been charged in connection with a drugs seizure in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

Police seized heroin, worth an estimated street value of £2,700, during a planned search of a house on Saturday, 18 June.

The suspect has been charged on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug with intent to supply and dishonestly using electricity.

He is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates' Court today, 20 June.

Constable Peter Kearney from the Ballymena Crime Team said: "We are determined to reduce the availability of this killer drug and I appeal to anyone who has any concerns or information about illegal drugs to contact their local Police on the non-emergency number 101.

"Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
