Man Arrested After Attempted Robbery In West Belfast

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to rob a pharmacy in west Belfast.

The incident occurred at premises in the Andersonstown Road area just before 5pm on Thursday, 18 August.

The suspect, armed with a knife, entered the chemist and demanded money. However, members of staff detained the man until the police arrived at the scene.

Sinn Fein MP Paul Maskey MP said: "Two members of staff were injured during the robbery but they raised the alarm and police were on site within minutes and took a man into custody.

"The quick actions of the staff prevented the robbery and I commend them for that.

"People should be free to go about their work and businesses and should be able to trade without this type of activity."
