NASUWT Announces Details Of Strike Action
Northern Ireland's largest teachers' union, the NASUWT, has issued notice to employers of the first one day of strike action on the 30 November 2016.
Chris Keates, NASUWT General Secretary, said: "It is with deep regret that we have been forced to move to this position, but we have been left with no choice by the blatant disregard of the Minister for Education and the Employers for the pay and conditions of service of teachers who provide such a vital public service.
"We have made two written reasonable requests to the Minister which if accepted, would avoid the strike action. If the first of the strikes goes ahead it will be the responsibility of the Ministers and the Employers."
Carriageway Resurfacing Scheme Underway
A £160,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Kingsway in Belfast has begun, Infrastructure Minister, Chris Hazzard has announced.
The works from Black's Road junction to the M1 bridge are due to start on Monday 14 November with completion expected before the end of November.
Infrastructure Minister, Chris Hazzard said: "This investment of £160,000 will greatly improve the strength and surface quality on this busy stretch of road.
"Improving transport connections along roads while maintaining a network which is fit for purpose is a priority for the Executive. This scheme plays a part in achieving this priority."
The works on the road will be carried out overnight from 9.00 pm to 6.00 am the next morning, each night from Monday 14 November to Friday 18 November and Monday 21 November to Tuesday 22 November 2016.
Belfast City Council Announce Closures At City Hall
Belfast City Council have announced the temporary closure of City Hall to allow for the preparations for the upcoming Belfast Christmas Market.
The East side of the grounds will be closed to members of the public until this Saturday (12 November). Access to City Hall will still be available through the front entrance, Donegal Square South and Donegal Square West during this time.
City Hall and its grounds will be open to the public this Sunday (13 November) for the Remembrance Sunday service. However, the public tour at 12 noon that day has been cancelled but tours will still take place at 2pm and 3pm.
From 6am on Monday 14 November to 12 noon on Saturday 19 November the front doors and grounds of City Hall will be closed to accommodate completion of the Christmas Market build.
Access during this time will be through the back of City Hall on Donegal Square South. The Donegal Square East entrance will remain closed due to the ongoing construction work.
The Christmas Market will open at 12 noon on Saturday 19 November, ahead of the Christmas Lights Switch On which is being headlined by Lily of Driftwood Bay and the Clangers, with the event starting at 6.30pm. All tickets for this family friendly event have now been allocated.
The Cenotaph and Garden of Remembrance will remain open throughout the build period and Christmas Market operating hours.

With over 1 million people expected to visit the Belfast Christmas Market this year, Lord Mayor Councillor Tina Black met with the Market Place Europe team putting the finishing touches in place for its opening at 12noon.

The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.
