Royal Marine Pleads Guilty To Planning Terror Attack
A Royal Marine from Northern Ireland has pleaded guilty to terrorism related offences including making bombs and storing military weapons.
Ciarán Maxwell, who is originally from Larne but has an address in Devon, admitted to the charges between January 2011 and August 2016 at the Old Bailey on Friday, 03 February.
He stashed explosives in purpose-built hides in England and Northern Ireland and compiled a library of terrorism documents.
He also had maps, plans and lists of potential targets for a terrorist attack , images of an adapted PSNI pass card and uniform.
Maxwell was arrested on 24 August by officers from the Metropolitan police service's counter-terrorism command, supported by Avon and Somerset and Devon and Cornwall police.
Maxwell was remanded in custody and a date for sentencing is to be set.
Commander Dean Haydon of the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, said: "I would like to acknowledge the excellent joint working between PSNI and the UK's National Counter Terrorism network in bringing Maxwell to justice. This investigation resulted in a significant disruption and protected public safety by removing a large quantity of dangerous material from circulation."

Four Arrested Over Letter Bombs
Four people have been arrested in L'Derry by detectives investigating a series of letter bombs sent to addresses in Northern Ireland and England last year and earlier this year. Two men aged 35 and 46 and two women aged 21 and 44 were arrested in the city and taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police station for interview.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
