Major Gas Leak In Co Antrim

A number of homes had to be evacuated following a major gas leak in Co Antrim.

The incident happened in the Stiles Way area at around 10pm on Thursday, 30 March.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended the scene and local residents were advised to stay indoors and keep all their windows and doors closed.

It is believed a gas main may have been punctured by a contractor using an excavator.

Residents Urged To Stay Indoors Following Gas Leak
Firefighters have issued a warning for people to stay indoors following a gas leak. Firmus gas workers and fire crews are attending the scene in the Lever Road area in Portstewart, Co L'Derry. A 200metre cordon has been put up. Residents in the area have been advised to close their windows and doors as a precaution. The incident is ongoing.

Gas Storage To Be Built Under Lough
A £440m gas storage facility is to be built a mile underneath Larne Lough. The development will enable 500m cubic metres of natural gas to be stored in caverns underneath the lough. The new bank will be able to hold enough gas to provide energy for Northern Ireland for sixty days.

Suspected gas leak given the all clear
Police have given the scene of a suspected gas leak in north Belfast, the all clear. Earlier today, Ambleside Street, in the Shankill area of the city and the surrounding areas between Tennant Street and Silvio Street were closed off after the incident was reported to police.

Appeal For Information After 'Noxious Substance' Released In East Belfast
Two police officers have been treated in hospital following a suspected gas leak in a housing block in east Belfast. On Friday, 22 September, at around 9.15pm, the officers were responding to an unrelated 999 call at Ravenhill Reach Court when a suspected gas leak was detected in a communal area.
