Maolíosa McHugh Named New Mayor Of Derry City And Strabane Council

Sinn Fein councillor Maolíosa McHugh has been elected as the new Mayor of Derry City and Strabane Council.

He succeeds the DUP's Hilary McClintock.

Cllr McHugh pledged to provide "civic leadership and support to all communities".

He said: "Already strong links have been forged with our neighbours in the Donegal Council area and I will continue to encourage and support the development of these strong bonds as we work together to mitigate the impending negative effects of Brexit.

"During my time as Mayor I will work tirelessly to attract investment to this City and District and will welcome the opportunity to meet with trade delegations, potential investors and others to promote this city and region."

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.
