Farmer Fined For Pollution Offence

A farmer from L'Derry has been fined £1,500 for a pollution offence.

Mr William Millar Henry was also given an Offenders levy of £15 for causing a polluting discharge to a waterway.

On 11 February 2016, Water Quality Inspectors (WQIs), acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) inspected a waterway adjacent to 46 Ballyrashane Road, Coleraine and observed grey fungus in the waterway. The discharge was traced to farm premises owned by Mr Henry.

A sample taken at the time of the incident confirmed that the discharge contained poisonous, noxious or polluting matter which was potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving waterway.

Call For Liadh Ni Riada To Withdraw Comments

Northern Ireland MEP Diane Dodds has called on Liadh Ni Riada to withdraw and apologise for her remarks when she claimed in an interview IRA atrocities could not be described as terrorism.

She said: "This is yet another example of Sinn Fein’s continued glorification of IRA crimes and further insult to innocent victims across the UK who suffered at the hands of the Provisional IRA.

"Liadh Ni Riada is right to say that what Islamic State jihadis did in London and Manchester cannot be justified, but how offensive is it that she seems to think you can justify the murders of young Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball in Warrington as some how a different level of terrorism?

"The clear reality is there is no difference between the abhorrent terrorism of Islamic State and that carried out by the IRA.

"People will be rightly outraged by her attempts to gloss over the murder of 9 people on Bloody Friday, 21 people in Birmingham, seven people in Aldershot and the 2 children in Warrington. The same attacks maimed 375 people. This is just a fraction of around 1800 people the IRA murdered during their terror campaign. Murder was never justified, then or now."
