Police Attacked In L'Derry

A number of police officers have been attacked at the scene of a road collision in co L'Derry.

Missiles were thrown at their vehicles by a group of youths in the Magowan Park area on Sunday, 25 February, after a four-year-old girl was injured in a crash.

Police were also attacked in the Cromore Gardens and Cable Street areas.

Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said: "I would echo the calls from community leaders for those who were involved in this wanton and reckless behaviour last night to stop and think.

"How would you feel if your four-year-old sister was hurt as the result of a road traffic collision and the emergency services were hampered from carrying out their duties because you thought it was ok to throw missiles at them?

"Or how would you feel if your mother/father or grandparents needed the emergency services and they were prevented from attending their call for help because again they had come under attack?"
