Community Groups to get £120K funding
Community Relations Minister, John Spellar today announced that a further £120,000 is to be allocated to community organisations in north Belfast.
The funding is being allocated under an extension to the Youth Development Programme which aims to support youth work across north Belfast.
Commenting on the funding, the Minister said: "Today’s announcement builds upon work started last year on the longer-term development of young people and to contribute to improving community relations across north Belfast.
"It is important to keep momentum with this much needed support for young people in north Belfast. It is also important that communities are encouraged to address the needs of their areas.
"Extending the current Youth Development Programme to March 2004 will help this process and will give time for full integration into Community Empowerment Partnerships from April."
Groups to benefit from the funding are: Ardoyne & Marrowbone Youth Development Partnership; Oldpark/Shankill Consortium; Ligoniel Active Citizenship Project; Mount Vernon and Locality Consortium; Ethnic Inclusion Through Sport; Ballysillan Youth Consortium; Greater Greencastle Consortium; Upper Shankill/Upper Ardoyne Consortium; Greater New Lodge Consortium; Cliftonville Youth Development Project; Upper North Youth Consortium; and Duncairn & Mountcollyer Consortium.
