Buchanan 'Extremely Disappointed' Over Election Result
The DUP's Tom Buchanan has said that he "extremely disappointed" to have lost the West Tyrone by-election but that he respects the decision of the people.
The MLA was speaking after he lost the by-election to Sinn Féin's Órfhlaith Begley by almost 8,000 votes.
Mr Buchanan said: "The people of West Tyrone have spoken and I respect their decision. I am extremely disappointed however that the constituency will continue to be unrepresented in Parliament. Whilst West Tyrone has an MP it does not have one who is prepared to do the full job expected of them.
"The election has been marred by some serious allegations of interference in the democratic process. These must be investigated fully and there should also be a proper discussion about reform of the electoral process.
"I am pleased that the gap between Sinn Fein and the DUP in the constituency has been narrowed from the last election. The DUP is clearly the voice of unionism in West Tyrone and this result represents the second highest vote share ever for the party. I thank all those who supported me during this campaign and pledge to continue working to represent everyone right across the constituency and to keep delivering for West Tyrone."

The Tyrone doctor who topped the poll during the 2003 West Tyrone Assembly elections has confirmed that he is to stand in this year’s general election. Dr Kieran Deeny declared his intention in Omagh on Monday, saying he wanted to fight for better health services following the Government’s decision to remove acute hospital services from Tyrone.

Arrests follow discovery of bomb in County Tyrone
Dissident republicans are being linked to a 130lb bomb defused by army bomb disposal experts in County Tyrone. The bomb, consisting of home made explosive hidden in a creamery can, was found during a search of property at Glenaness Road, Sixmilecross, at around 8.05pm on Tuesday October 16.
