Belfast Marathon Death: Limavady Man Named

The PSNI have named the man who died after collapsing during the Belfast Marathon as 50-year-old Stephen Heaney.

Described as a "devoted dad", Mr Heaney collapsed on the Sydenham bypass approximately five miles into the marathon on Monday, 07 May.

It is understood that a number of other runners stopped to help Mr Heaney as two ambulances rushed to the scene. Mr Heaney was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital, where he died a short time later.

According to reports, Mr Heaney's funeral will be held at Christ Church in his hometown of Limavady on Friday, 11 May.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to Macmillan Cancer Support, care of Browns Funeral Directors, 25 Church Street, Limavady.
