Celebration Day Plans Modern Spin On Heritage Of CS Lewis

Belfast City Council have announced a free, one-day event celebrating urban arts, which aims to put a modern spin on the heritage of author CS Lewis' famous novel, 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'.

As part of the Council's initiative, #BelfastArtsWeekender, local and international street mural artists will be working live in the square to transform a carefully selected group of 'previously loved' wardrobes, as well as permanent walls in the surrounding area.

Thunder Action Sports will be providing urban sports and dance displays, there'll be music from Girl DJ collective throughout the afternoon and a closing set by electronic artist Mount Palomar. Horatio Todd's will bring the refreshments and Hot Dog Dodge will make sure no-one goes hungry.

Belfast Lord Mayor, Councillor Nuala McAllister, said: "CS Lewis Square is a fantastic place to relax with your family and friends – not least because of the beautiful sculptures of Aslan and other Narnia characters. And this Bank Holiday Monday, you won't want to miss out on all the fun. It's totally free and open to everyone to enjoy.

"Our Belfast Agenda makes a commitment to making the city a vibrant, attractive and connected city and events like these are helping us to deliver on that objective. Seeing the square buzzing with excitement and creativity reminds us why it's worthwhile investing in shared public space and in culture – both really do enhance our quality of life."
