SDLP Councillors Remove IRA Sign Outside Royal Victoria Hospital
An IRA sign erected outside Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital has been removed.
The sign, which bore the letters 'IRA' and featured a machine gun, was taken down by SDLP Belfast City Councillors, Donal Lyons and Tim Attwood.
Cllr Attwood said hospitals "should be a neutral space for patients and staff alike".
"Twenty years on from the Good Friday Agreement, which received an overwhelming endorsement from the people of this island, these groups still fail to recognise that their message and presence isn't wanted and will not be tolerated," he said.
"The SDLP will be requesting a meeting with the PSNI to seek further clarification on plans for similar displays to be disposed of across the city."
Cllr Donal Lyons added: "There is no justification for paramilitary trappings in our city. Patients and their families have enough to deal with, without having to tolerate territorial shows of strength from illegal organisations."

British and Irish Sign Languages now official
Both British and Irish Sign Languages are now officially recognised in Northern Ireland. Secretary of State, Paul Murphy last night announced the news during a special reception at Hillsborough Castle to mark the success of the European Year of People with Disabilities.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.

St Patrick's Day event has support of BCC says councillor
The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.
