Funding Secured For Drugs Support Worker In North Belfast
A drugs support worker is to be based in north Belfast to help youths who may be struggling with addiction in the area.
The worker will be based at YeHa in St. Gemma's every Thursday.
SDLP Paul McCusker welcomed the announcement and said the one-to-one support is there to assist with crisis intervention for any young person who finds themselves struggling with addiction.
He said: "Given the disturbing increase of drug usage in the area that is devastating the lives of young people in North Belfast, I am pleased we have secured funding for a drug support worker.
"Though the SDLP recognise we need an over-haul of our addiction services in Northern Ireland, as well as an up-to-date drugs strategy, we consider this a step in the right direction, and we hope it can bring positive change to the lives of struggling young people."
