Stormy Weather For NI To Disrupt Travel On Tuesday

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland that is expected to disrupt traffic and travel on Tuesday 18 December.

The alert covers the entire country and comes into force at 3am, ending at 9am.

Wet and windy weather is expected with the potential of flooding.

The Met Office said the east will be the worst affected during the morning rush hour, and commuters are urged to allow extra time for their journeys.

"The highest rainfall totals will be over western and southern parts where 15-30mm of rain is likely.

"The windiest weather, meanwhile, will be in the far east and southeast during the morning rush hour, gusts then likely to widely reach 45-55 mph and come close to 65 mph in the most exposed spots. Elsewhere conditions will be less windy, especially by morning rush hour."

Bus and train services may be affected, and spray on roads could make for treacherous driving conditions.

Drivers of high-sided vehicles are urged to take extra caution on exposed routes and bridges.

There is also a possibility of the short term loss of power and other services.
