PSNI Issue Warning After Reports Of Dog Poisoning
Police in Newtownards have issued a warning after reports of a dog being poisoned in a local park.
Officers posted on social media to alert local dog-walkers of the report, which is being investigated by Ards and North Down Borough Council.
"Please be aware of this if you walk your dogs in that area and if you have any information about a dog having been poisoned there, in the last couple of days, please ring Council on 0300 013 333 or police on 101."
Alliance Party Express Concern Over Newtownabbey Electoral Office Closure
An MLA for the Alliance party has expressed his "extreme" concern about the closure of the Newtownabbey Electoral Office.
The facility is set to close on Monday 07 January, the latest in a round of closures of electoral offices across Northern Ireland, due to a growth in online usage and a decline in those using the service in-house.
Alliance MLA for South Antrim, John Blair said: "I understand the Electoral Office must reflect on what and how its future service should look like, however, what concerns me here is the perceived lack of public correspondence to date.
"At the very least there should have been more public notice than the three working days prior notice published on a website at the tail end of a holiday period.
"The Electoral Office NI published response to the consultation on future services makes reference to discussions with local councils regarding these future services.
"As far as I can see there is no evidence that this has either progressed, or that consideration has already been given to the allocated resources required, especially if the cost will fall to ratepayers.
"And while we can all recognise the need to modernise in the digital age, thought must also be given to the more remote and rural areas, where broadband reception is poor.
"These are just a few of the issues I'll be following up on, ensuring local people know how and where they can best access the services open to them."
US Women's Ice Hockey Teams In NI For Friendly Tournament
Top colleges from the United States are being represented in Northern Ireland this week as Belfast hosts the first NCAA women's hockey games.
Teams from Clarkson University and Northeastern University are set to play in the series, which follows on form the success of the Friendship Four, which brings four men's colleges from the US together to compete.
Clarkson are the 2018 NCAA champions, while Northeastern are the reigning 2018 Hockey East Champions.
Belfast Lord Mayor Deirdre Hargey welcomed the teams to Belfast Belfast City Hall on Thursday 03 January, and said the event will put the city on the international ice-hockey map.

Two Men Arrested Over Bomb Found In West Belfast Released
Two men arrested in connection with a bomb found during a security alert in west Belfast have been released unconditionally. A viable bomb was discovered on the Brian's Well Road in Poleglass on Sunday, 15 January. Police said the device was designed to "kill or seriously" injure officers serving in the local community.

A newly returned MLA has suggested a solution after a chorus of condemnation on the Assembly 'election fiasco', which at times, decended into a near chaotic process. Danny Kinahan, a UUP South Antrim MLA (pictured) said last night: "It's only when you see an election count at close quarters that you realise just how complex an operation it can be.

New electoral identity card set for issue
The Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland, Denis Stanley, has today announced the arrangements for the issue of the new electoral identity card. The new card is one way in which voters can provide photographic proof of identity if elections take place as expected in May.
