Fermanagh Security Alert As Suspected WWI Shell Discovered
Homes have been evacuated as part of an ongoing security alert in County Fermanagh, after a suspected First World War shell was discovered during building work.
The device was found on the morning of Monday 07 January, as construction work was being carried out near the police station in Enniskillen town centre.
Properties nearby have been evacuated.
PSNI Chief Inspector Graham Dodds said officers are currently working to clear the area, which includes a local park and a number of flats.
"A cordon has also been put in place on part of Lough Erne. I appreciate this will cause disruption for those impacted, however, keeping people safe is of paramount importance and we will not take any risks.
"In the meantime, I want to thank those affected for their patience as we work to clear the area."
