Five Arrested After County Down Burglary

Five men have been arrested by police investigating an aggravated burglary in a County Down village that occurred two years ago.

The arrests were made after officers searched a number of properties in the Killyleagh, Belfast, Newtownards and Dromore areas on Tuesday 15 January.

The men, aged 57, 42, 33, 25 and 21, have been detained on suspicion of aggravated burglary, possession of a firearm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon with intent, criminal damage and intimidation.

It is in relation to a burglary at a house in the Castleview area of Killyleagh in January 2017.

All five were still in police custody as of Tuesday evening.

Four Arrested Following Disorder In South Belfast

Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.

Man Charged In Possession Of Heroin
A man is to appear in court charged in possession of heroin. Police arrested five people during searches of a property in Newry on Wednesday, 16 January. Two men have also been charged in possession of a Class A drug. A 50-year-old woman has also been charged with permitting premises to be used for the supply of a Class A drug.

'A' Level School Leavers Increase 5%
The number of pupils in Northern Ireland achieving two or more 'A' levels or equivalent increased by 4.9% during the five years to 2012/13, according to the Department of Education. The proportion of school leavers achieving two or more 'A' levels or equivalent was 55.1%, up from from 50.2% in 2008/09.

19-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder In North Belfast
The PSNI have charged a 19-year-old man with attempted murder in connection with a number of incidents in north Belfast. It is understood the man has been detained following a knife attack at Annesley Street at around 4pm on Sunday 12 December. A number of other incidents followed on Vicinage Park and Cranburn Street.
