Four Men Jailed For Life Over Loyalist Feud Killing

Four men from County Down have been jailed for life for their involvement in the May 2017 murder of Colin Horner.

The 35-year-old was gunned down in front of his young son in a supermarket carpark on Balloo Link in Bangor in May 2017.

The killing was linked to an ongoing feud in the south east Antrim UDA, which claimed the life of Geordie Gilmore in Carrickfergus three months earlier.

Newtownards men Alan James Wilson, 30, of North Green, Joseph Blair, 35, of Shackleton Walk, Robert Ralph, 47 of Donaghadee Road, and 31-year-old Bangor man Ryan Graham Smyth of Windsor Gardens, all pleaded guilty.

Following their pleas, the judge jailed the men for life, which he claimed was the "only sentence open" to him in the circumstances.

A tariff hearing is scheduled for next week to determine how long each of them will serve of their life terms before being considered for release.
