Man Jailed For Life Over 2017 Christmas Day Murder
A man from Lisburn has been jailed for life after he pled guilty to stabbing a mother to death on Christmas Day 2017.
20-year-old Nathan Ward admitted stabbing Jayne Toal Reat, 43, at a house in the Mornington Lane area of Lisburn.
He entered his plea at Craigavon Crown Court on Thursday morning, 24 January, after being rearraigned on the charges in the same case.
He also admitted to wounding his own father in the same incident.
Judge Patrick Lynch QC jailed the self-confessed killer for life.
The case was adjourned pending a number of reports from a psychiatrist, probation and victim impact reports.
He will be told the minimum tariff to be spent behind bars in March.

Attempted Carjacking In West Belfast
Police are investigating an attempted carjacking in west Belfast on Tuesday, November 19th. At around 5:30pm, a man entered a parked car at Hillhead Court and attempted to steal it. A woman passenger was assaulted when she resisted the man's demands. The suspect, described as a man in his 20s wearing all black, fled the scene on foot.

Two men die in separate stabbing incidents
Two people have been killed in separate stabbing incidents in Northern Ireland over the weekend. Hugh McKibben, 51, of Main Street in Carrowdore died in a stabbing incident at a house on Inisharoan Court about midnight on Sunday May 5. Four people were arrested following his murder but three have since been released on police bail.

The PSNI has welcomed the sentencing of a man at Craigavon Crown Court in connection with a cannabis farm disovered in Annahilt in February, 2023. Clive Weir, from the Annahilt area, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 18 months on licence.

Man Seriously Injured After Being Attacked In Belfast
A man has sustained life threatening injuries after being attacked in Belfast. Police received reports of an altercation in the Great Victoria Street area at around 6.20pm on Tuesday, 06 March. The man, aged in his 20s, had been stabbed during the assault and he is currently being treated in hospital.
