Man Charged After Laser Shone At Police Helicopter

A man has been charged in connection with a laser that was shone at a police helicopter in Lurgan.

The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday 09 February, and the 27-year-old is accused of "shining a light to dazzle or distract a pilot, endangering the safety of an aircraft, causing danger to road-users by using laser light and disorderly behaviour".

He is due to appear at Lisburn Magistrates Court today, 11 February.

Police were carrying out searches relating to drug dealing in north Lurgan when a laser was shone into their helicopter from the ground.

A man was then pursued by police, before he took refuge in a house after discarding the laser.

Police tracked him in their helicopter and the man was then arrested.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.
