Police Officer Injured After Car Rammed In County Antrim
A police officer has been injured after the vehicle he was driving was rammed in County Antrim.
The incident happened when the officer was on patrol in the High Street and Harbough areas of Carnlough at around 1am this morning, Friday 22 February.
After noticing a silver Jeep he believed to be suspicious, the constable positioned his unmarked police car in front of the vehicle, according to Inspector Peter Duncan.
When he attempted to alight, his car was rammed and almost pushed into the water.
The jeep then made off at speed.
The officer immediately pursued it but had to abort due to the extensive damage caused to his police vehicle.
The jeep was later found abandoned and has been seized for forensic examination.
The injured officer sustained bruising and whiplash type injuries but continued with the rest of his shift.
Inspector Duncan commended the officer for both his bravery and resilience, and wished him a speedy recovery.
