SDLP Councillor Tim Attwood Stands Down
SDLP Councillor for west Belfast, Tim Attwood, has announced that he won't be contesting the local elections in May.
It is believed the decision follows the SDLP's recent partnership with Fianna Fail.
After 20 years in politics, the councillor said the political landscape has "changed utterly".
Party leader Colum Eastwood expressed his gratitude to the long-standing councillor and said he will be sorely missed.
The Foyle MLA commented: "Cllr Attwood has an outstanding record of public service and has been a central figure in our Belfast Council group. Tim's relentless pursuit for fairness and justice will not be quickly forgotten.
"I am truly sorry that Tim has decided not to stand in the upcoming local election. His politics and character will be sorely missed.
"We are pleased nonetheless that Tim will remain and contribute as an integral party member."

Staff at Dunnes Stores have been left in "utter dismay" after an announcement that 50 jobs are to be lost at its Park Centre store in west Belfast. SDLP West Belfast Councillor Tim Attwood met with staff and trade union officials to discuss the issue on Wednesday. The firm plans to close its food outlet store with the loss of 50 jobs.
