Ferry Safety Warning After Crush On NI To Scotland Sailing
A safety warning has been issued to lorry drivers who remain in their vehicles while ferries are at sea, following an on-board crush on a ferry from Northern Ireland to Scotland last December.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) highlighted the dangers after it was found that at least six drivers stayed in their lorries during the incident on a P&O sailing between Larne and Cairnryan.
No-one was hurt during the incident, but one individual became trapped and had to be rescued by the emergency services.
The MAIB issued the following recommendations:
• While a ferry is at sea, the ro-ro decks should be occupied by only trained professional seafarers who are required to undertake safety and security patrols.
• Drivers who remain on the vehicle deck of ro-ro passenger ferries pose a danger to themselves and can cause delay in emergency response.
• Drivers who remain in their vehicle cabs could be in danger of asphyxiation by fire, or as a result of the fire suppression systems that may be released by ship's staff.

SOS For Sinking Ferry Service
As a scenic cross border transport link remains in jeopardy, a Coleraine Sinn Féin councillor has urged NI Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster to take action to save the ferry. Billy Leonard wants the DUP Minister to play her part along with other Stormont Executive colleagues to save the Magilligan ferry service to Greencastle.

Roads Service Ready For Winter Weather
Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has confirmed that the Department's winter service team is prepared to tackle the current cold snap. Around 300 staff and 130 gritters are ready to salt main roads, while 12 snow blowers are available for deployment if necessary. To ensure a comprehensive winter service, the Department has allocated £3.

Pedestrian Dies Following Road Traffic Collision Ikn West Belfast
A female pedestrian in her 70s has tragically died following a road traffic collision in west Belfast on Saturday, 9th November. The incident occurred on Hannahstown Hill shortly after 6:50pm when two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured pedestrians were taken to hospital.

Local Firm Secures Rathlin Ferry Contract
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has revealed that Rathlin Island Ferry Limited (RIFL) has won a contract to operate a ferry service between the Island and Ballycastle. Minister Kennedy said: "I congratulate Rathlin Island Ferry Limited on their successful bid that now sees the company secure the ferry operation until 2016.

Foyle Ferry Refloated
A lifeline has been thrown to a fast-sinking cross-border car ferry service. The crisis-hit Lough Foyle Ferry - which was due to cease services this week for good - is to continue until at least Christmas, on the understanding that new funding is found.
