Warning As Rat Poison Left In Belfast
Dog walkers in south Belfast have been warned to be vigilant after rat poison was left amongst bread on Annadale Embankment earlier this week.
A member of the public discovered approximately 200 pellets of the poison on Tuesday evening, 23 April.
Police have expressed concern that it has been left in a deliberate attempt to entice animals to eat.
Writing on Facebook, a spokesperson said: "There is absolutely no excuse for this and it will kill or make any animal severely ill, be it rodents or domestic animals. The likelihood is a dog would have eaten these and a family is left with a hefty vet bill or even worse the death of a beloved member of the family. Please be vigilant when walking your dog and ensure it doesn't eat anything it finds on the ground."
Anyone with information is urged to contact police using the non-emergency line 101 quoting reference 1600 of 23/04/19.

Hero Army Dog Handlers Honoured
Murdered soldiers who worked with specialist 'sniffer' dogs during the Northern Ireland Troubles have been remembered. The 'Red Paw' and its work across Northern Ireland was the subject of a special memorial service held in England at the weekend. It was in honour of the six dog handlers and two sniffer dogs killed in Northern Ireland.

Dead animals left at Armagh forest
Animal carcasses are being dumped at a beauty spot in Armagh, leading local councillors to issue concerns that the practice will pose a health hazard. The bodies of the cows and sheep were dumped illegally in a forest at the Ballintemple scenic point on the Slieve Gullion area of south Armagh.

'Aggressive' dog destroyed after attack
A Rottweiler dog, which was shot and injured by police in Castlewellan, County Down last night, has been destroyed. Detectives received reports of dogs acting aggressively in a residential area near Drumee Drive at around 9.30pm.

Police shoot pit-bull terriers during west Belfast attack
Police in west Belfast have shot two pit-bull terriers that attacked a woman and her pet dog yesterday afternoon. The incident happened at around 2pm on the Upper Suffolk Road in the west of the city. The woman was uninjured during the attack, however it is understood that her collie died from its injuries.
