PSNI Slammed For Delayed Response To Assault

The PSNI have been criticised for an alleged delayed response to an assault which took place in an ice cream shop in north Belfast.

A woman was injured during the attack in Rossi's on Atlantic Avenue on Sunday morning, 16 June. She was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment, while staff at the business urged police to speed up their response efforts.

"This guy is on the loose," a post on the shop's official Twitter account said.

"There is a staff member in hospital who needs justice. There is a lot of evidence waiting to be gathered," the spokesperson urged the PSNI.

North Belfast Sinn Fein Councillor JJ Magee said the incident was traumatic for the staff member involved.

He commented: "I have been speaking to the shop staff and this was an extremely worrying incident and undoubtedly traumatic for the shop assistant who was hurt. I wish her a speedy recovery from her injuries.

"I am disappointed at the response from the police who took over four hours to arrive at the scene and that is something I will be raising with the local District Commander."

Staff at the business later confirmed that PSNI officers had arrived.
