Four men remanded over abduction attempt
Four men arrested by police on Friday in connection with the alleged abduction of a dissident republican were remanded in custody following an appearance before Laganside Magistrates Court today.
The four men from Belfast, Harold Fitzsimmons (35) of St James Gardens, Gerard McCory (32) of Dermot Hill Road, Liam Rainey (30) of New Barnsley Crescent and Thomas Tolan (32) of Ballymurphy Parade, faced charges of possession of articles that could be of use to terrorists, causing grievous bodily harm and unlawful imprisonment.
Charges of membership of a proscribed paramilitary organisation against the four men were withdrawn.
The charges relate to the attempted abduction of 44-year-old Bobby Tohill who was found injured in a van stopped by police officers in Belfast on Friday night.
Mr Tohill who is described as a prominent republican dissident is currently being treated in hospital following the incident.
The four accused who waved and joked with supporters in court, made no reply when the charges were read to them.
All four men were remanded in custody.

Dissident Republican Activity: More Time Given To Question Four Men
Police have been granted more time to question four men over dissident republican activity. Three men were arrested in Lurgan and one man was arrested in Coalisland on Wednesday, 21 September. The PSNI has been given until Monday evening to question the men.

Four men remanded over blackmail charges
Four men have appeared in court today charged with an alleged plot to blackmail a Belfast businessman. They have been charged with demanding £50,000 with menace from a person known as Witness A between May 21 and 30 this year.

A 39-year-old man has been remanded in custody until November 21 after appearing before Belfast Magistrates Court today in connection to an arms find on the outskirts of Belfast. Phillip George Shaw, from Carlan Close in Belfast, appeared before the court on charges connected to a major weapons seizure in the Rathcoole estate on Tuesday.

Two men have appeared in court today charged with aggravated burglary. The men, Patrick Joseph Quinn, aged 17, from Whitecliff Parade, and Sean Paul Reid, 19, from Divismore Crescent, both Belfast, appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court in connection with an incident at Norfolk Drive in the west of the city on Monday. At around 12.
