Police Warning To Prevent Vehicle Thefts
The PSNI is advising members of the public to prioritise their vehicle safety in a bid to prevent a rise in car thefts.
As technology advances, offenders can gain access to vehicles by redirecting the wireless signal from key fobs. Cases lined with metal, known as blocking pouches, can block this activity.
Members of the public are advised to include their vehicle into their daily safety checks, such as locking doors and windows before going to bed.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "You have heard us talking about your night time safety routine when it comes to your home but do you know that it is just as important to do the same with your vehicle?
"Your vehicle is an expensive piece of property so it is vital that you take the same steps to protect it as you would your home."
The officer listed the following steps as useful in foiling potential car thefts:
• Establish a nightly safety routine to keep your vehicle safe.
• If you have a garage, use it. If not, make sure you close and lock gates to your property.
• Use physical car locks such as steering column locks and chains.
• Move your car keys (including any spare sets) well away from exterior doors and walls.
• Use a blocking pouch (lined with metallic material) to block the wireless signal from your key fob.

It has been claimed that 60 per cent of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are failing to ensure that their staff are fit to drive while on company business. This is just one of the findings contained in a recent survey undertaken by HSBC Vehicle Finance into the issue of company behaviour on health and safety issues.

Three In Hospital After Police Vehicle Collides With Another Vehicle
Two police officers and a civilian remain in hospital following a collision in Newry on Saturday, 13 April. It is understood that the police officers were travelling in a police vehicle to attend a separate incident at about 7.30pm when they collided with another vehicle on the Fathom Road.
