Police Warn Of Rogue Trader Operating In Co Armagh

Police have issued a warning following reports of a woman charging excessive amounts for home gardening services in Portadown, County Antrim.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant when visited by cold-callers following the incident on the town's Granville Road.

The woman visited a house to offer her gardening services but charged an amount excessively over the expected price, according to police.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Yes there are legitimate door to door traders, but unfortunately there are also those that are out to target the vulnerable and charge way over what's expected for the services they offer.

"A reminder to check with any doorstep traders that they have the correct paperwork. If they have flyers are there names, contacts numbers and do they offer a cooling down period etc."

Anyone who witnessed any rogue traders on the Granville Road in Portadown is urged to call 101 quoting reference 01/08/19.

Appeal As Youths Enter Private Property In Lurgan

Residents in Lurgan have been asked to check CCTV footage after a report of youths entering the back garden of a house.

Two youths gained entry to the private property through a building site on Ardboe Drive, Lurgan.

Police said the incident has caused understandable distress to the homeowner.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity or has CCTV covering the area is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1865 of 25/07/19.

Portadown Riverside Area Regenerated In £270k Investment

The riverside area of Portadown in County Armagh has been brought back to life courtesy of a £270,000 investment.

The first phase of the Portadown Riversides Revitalisation scheme was completed, which included Portadown Public Realm and Linkages schemes and the recent regeneration of the Pump House.

These works are being delivered to reposition the River Bann as an attractive and desirable location in Portadown.

RPS Consultancy and CCNI Contractors are carrying out the works, which are part-funded by Department for Communities as part of their Lurgan/Portadown Environmental Improvement Schemes.

Speaking during a tour of the Riversides area, Lord Mayor Councillor Mealla Campbell commented: "This investment is testament to our commitment to regenerate our town centres and help them develop and become more sustainable. By rejuvenating a beautiful and historic part of Portadown we hope that people will experience the unique riverside offering and combine this with a visit to Portadown’s award-winning high street."

The second phase of the project will include further resurfacing, flood mitigation, improved linkages, planting and landscaping, signage, street furniture, orientation and interpretation, revised boundary treatments, additional tourism/events infrastructure and the development of play facilities.

Woman Dies In Garage Fire At Portadown Home
A woman has died after a fire in the garage of a house in Portadown, County Armagh. The fire at Oakleigh Park, off the Brownstown Road, was reported to police shortly after 07:20 GMT on Monday. Police and firefighters are still at the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire. The woman's name has not yet been released.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Second Phase Of Lurgan Improvement Scheme Begins
The Roads Service £120,000 improvement scheme being delivered in conjunction with the Lurgan Environmental scheme at Edward Street in the town is set to move into its second phase. The resurfacing of Edward Street is being carried out in two phases with most elements of the work scheduled to be carried out at weekends.

Orange Order Withdraws Application To Use Portadown Peoples Park
Portadown Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Duffy has welcomed the Orange Order’s decision to withdraw their application to use Portadown Peoples Park as part of their Mini Twelfth parade in the town. Councillor Paul Duffy said: "There will be a collective sigh of relief across all sections of the community in Portadown that common sense has prevailed.
