Device Explodes Outside L'Derry Home

Police have launched an investigation after a suspicious object detonated outside a home in L'Derry.

The incident in Bonds Place, in the city's Waterside, occurred shortly before 11pm on Tuesday 03 September.

While no one was injured, damage was caused to the front door of the house.

A PSNI spokesperson said the explosion, which is understood to have been a pipe bomb, had the potential to cause serious injury.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, a van was driven into a house in the Glendale Road area of the city. The vehicle was then reversed and set on fire in what police have described as a "reckless act".

Alliance Councillors Rachael Ferguson and Philip McKinney have today called for an end to all violence in the city.

Councillors Ferguson and McKinney said: "Over the last 24 hours we have seen acts of violence in our city which could have led to the loss of life or serious injury.

"We have had an explosive device thrown at a house in Bonds Place and an attack on a house in Glendale Road, where shots were heard. Clearly there are people who want to bring us back to the dark days, but the majority of people in our community reject violence and want this violence to stop immediately."

Anyone who was in the Bonds Place area at around 10:45pm-10:50pm and saw any suspicious activity, or has information which may assist the investigation, is urged to contact detectives at Strand Road on 101, quoting reference number 2093 of 03/09/19.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
