Firm Fined £30k As Pair Injured By Falling Steel Tubes
A Co Antrim firm is faced with a £30,000 fine after two people were seriously injured by falling stainless steel tubes and pipes.
Ballymoney based McAuley Precision Limited pled guilty to three health and safety breaches at Antrim Crown Court after the accident at their premises involving an overloaded racking system.
Both individuals, one of whom was an employee at the firm, suffered a number of serious crush injuries.
HSENI Inspector Lee Dougan said: "The investigation found that the racking was substantially overloaded prior to the accident. The company also failed to make a suitable and sufficient risk assessment regarding the loading of the racking.
"The maximum safe working load and design configuration for any racking installation should be conspicuously displayed and never exceeded. Racking should always be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
"This incident was entirely foreseeable and could have been avoided if simple control measures had been put in place."

Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

Armagh Firm Fined After Construction Worker Seriously Injured
An Armagh firm has been fined for two health and safety breaches at Laganside Crown Court. Raptic Limited was fined £2,400 plus costs of £1,780.14 after a construction worker fell from a height on 05 September 2014. The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) launched an investigation following the incident.
