PSNI: Firework Arson Attack Had Potential To Cause Tragedy
Police have said an arson attack using fireworks could have ended in tragedy this morning.
Fire crews were called to a property in the Rossnareen Road area of west Belfast in the early hours of Monday 04 November. It's understood that fireworks had been set alight and in turn ignited a bin bag full of waste in the stairwell of the property.
Inspector James Murphy slammed those responsible for the "reckless" incident, saying: "This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable. Everyone should be able to feel safe in their homes and not feel afraid by the reckless behaviour of others.
"Throwing fireworks at anything or anyone is irresponsible and it is important to remember they are made from explosive material and, if misused, can cause serious and life-changing injuries.
"This reckless action could have resulted in something more serious and we are lucky not to be dealing with a tragic incident.
"It's important to remember fireworks are made from explosive material and, if misused, can cause serious and life changing injuries."
Police enquiries are continuing and anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 106 of 04/11/19. Alternatively, details can be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A vehicle has been driven several times into a house in L'Derry before being set on fire in what police have said was a "completely reckless attack". Extensive damage was caused to the house in the Glendale Road area of the city following the incident on Tuesday evening, 03 September.

Youths as young as age 12 or 13 were among those who launched "missiles" at traffic in north Belfast, police have said. Officers took to social media to issue a warning about the "reckless" behaviour after a weekend of antisocial incidents in the area.

Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

Youths Charged With Maghera Murder
Two teenagers have been charged with the murder of Piotr Krowka in Maghera earlier this year. The body of the 36-year-old Polish national, who was homeless at the time, was found in a derelict building on the Glen Road on Tuesday 03 April. Mr Krowka had suffered serious injuries to his head and body.
