Belfast DPP announce new chairman
The Belfast District Policing Partnership has appointed its new Chairman and Deputy Chairman for the year ahead.
DUP councillor, Ruth Patterson will take up the reins as chairman, while UUP councillor David Browne is to become her deputy.
Commenting on her appointment, Councillor Patterson, who will combine her role with that of High Sheriff of Belfast, said: "I am honoured to have been appointed to the position of Chairman of the Belfast District Policing Partnership.
“The Partnership has now finalised its Strategic Plan which will take us up to the date of the Local Government Elections in May 2005. I look forward to working to accomplish the onerous burden which this plan places upon us.
"If we are to be successful, we need to increase the public’s awareness of the DPP and what it is we are seeking to achieve. In simple terms we want to give every citizen of the City a say in how we are policed. This will not be possible without the ongoing support of the Police Service of Northern Ireland and I look forward to developing the relationship with the District Commanders over the next year."
Councillor Patterson replaces outgoing chairman, Jim Rodgers who said that despite ongoing threats to members of the Partnership over the past, the Partnership had been successful in its core functions of monitoring police performance.
