Schools Commit To Improve The Environment
Schools across Northern Ireland are being encouraged to commit to the Eco-Schools programme to improve their environmental performance.
The international award scheme rewards and accredits schools that have continually boosted their performance, making environmental awareness and actions an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school and also the wider community, both for pupils and for staff.
Translink joined forces with Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful to encourage involvement in the project, with particular regard to the transport theme. Schools that have successfully completed all the elements of the programme are awarded the 'Green-Flag', a well-recognised Eco-Label that has to be renewed every two years.
The challenge raises awareness on the impact of transport on the environment and demonstrates the benefits of using sustainable transport. Challenge resources provide schools with a range of engaging activities to complete.

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has announced a series of measures aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Belfast City Centre. A strategic oversight group, comprising the DfI, Belfast City Council, PSNI, and Translink, has been formed to identify and implement effective solutions to reduce peak-time delays.
