Greens Stand Aside In North Down
The Green Party has confirmed it will not stand a candidate in the upcoming General Election in North Down.
Leader Clare Bailey set out her party's position on Wednesday, saying their priority is to maximise the pro-Remain vote in North Down.
It comes after the Greens also pledged to stand aside in each of the four Belfast constituencies, instead urging voters to support other pro-Remain parties.
Ms Bailey said: "This election comes during extraordinary times and the priority must be to maximise the pro-Remain vote in North Down.
"Let's remember that the majority of people across the constituency voted to Remain and they should have an MP that reflects a pro-European view."
Independent unionist MP Lady Sylvia Herman announced she would not seek reelection last week after serving 18 years at Westminster.
Alliance deputy leader Stephen Farry is to contest the North Down seat along with the pro-Brexit Alex Easton of the DUP, who came within 1,200 votes of unseating Lady Sylvia in 2017.
