Woman Arrested In Jonathan Cairns Murder Probe
Detectives investigating the murder of a Co L'Derry teenager 20 years ago have made an arrest.
Jonathan Cairns was attacked in his home village of Ballykelly as he made his way home from a night out on Sunday 25 April 1999.
His body was found in a shallow grave in the area of Loughermore Road, just miles from his home, the next day. He was just 18 years-old at the time.
A 44 year-old woman was detained in Dungiven earlier today, Tuesday 19 November, and taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
The investigation into Jonathan's murder has identified over 2500 witnesses, gathered statements from 872 people and over 20 searches have been carried out but the people responsible have never been brought before the courts.
Police previously said they believe the answers to the violent death remain in the local area.
