Viable Pipe Bomb Thrown At Bangor Home
A woman and children have escaped injury after a viable pipe bomb was thrown at their Bangor home.
Residents of the Killaire Wood Lane area were evacuated from their homes in the early hours of this morning, Monday 13 January, while ATO examined the object.
The incident happened shortly before 2.30am.
Detective Sergeant Rhonda Magennis said: "ATO were called to the scene to examine the object, which was located at the front of the property, and declared it to be a viable pipe-bomb type device.
"Thankfully, a woman and children who were in the property were not injured, however they have been left shaken by this reckless attack.
"The consequences could have been devastating and a number of local residents had to be evacuated from their homes."
The security alert has now ended and local residents have returned to their homes.
Police are working to establish a motive for the incident and are appealing for information. Anyone who was in the Killaine Wood Lane area early this morning is urged to consider whether they noticed any unusual activity.
Detectives can be contacted on 101 quoting reference 105 of 13/01/20. Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The Orange Order has agreed to engage in talks with a nationalist residents group in north Belfast, following an appeal by a unionist residents group. The Twaddell and Woodvale Residents Association asked local Orange lodges to speak to the Crumlin and Ardoyne Residents Association to find a way to help the 12th of July parades pass off peacefully.

A viable pipe bomb has been discovered during a security alert in west Belfast. Residents had to be evacuated from their homes in the Horn Drive area after a suspicious object was found on Monday, 25 September. Police and army bomb disposal experts attended the scene. The alert has now ended and the device has been removed for forensic examination.
