Arrests Made In Crumlin Security Alert Probe

Detectives investigating a security alert in Crumlin have made three arrests following searches in Belfast and Newry.

The alert caused disruption in the Co Antrim town on Thursday 16 January when a device was discovered wedged into the front grill of a car.

Police were supported by the Terrorism Investigation Unit this morning, 28 February, when searching four properties in the Newry, Belfast and Dunmurry areas.

Two men aged 55 and a third aged 58 were arrested under the Terrorism Act and taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

Police have renewed their appeal for information relating to the incident.

The alert was sparked in the Lurgan Road area, close to the junction of Maple Park and anyone with details they believe may be relevant can contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 1665 of 16/01/20.

'Small Bomb' Found During Security Alert
Army bomb experts have been called to examine an explosive device found at an apartment block in east Belfast. Police said that a number of residents were evacuated from the apartments in the Short Strand Road area at about 20:00 on Tuesday night. They described the device as a "small bomb". No further details have been released.

Residents Evacuated In North Belfast Alert
Residents have been forced to evacuate their homes in north Belfast following a report of a suspicious object in the area. The homes in Clifton Crescent were evacuated after the report of an object in the area on Monday afternoon. An army bomb squad has been tasked to the scene and the area has been closed to traffic.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Suspicious Object Sparks Antrim Security Alert
Police are currently dealing with a security alert in County Antrim. The discovery of a suspicious object sparked the operation on the A6 Belfast Road on Thursday 31 January. The road has been closed between the New Lodge and Rathmore roads. Diversions are in place and airport traffic is not likely to be affected.
