Woman Dies After 'Getting Into Difficulty' While Sea Swimming
A woman, aged in her 50s, has reportedly died after getting into difficulty while swimming in the sea at Carnlough, County Antrim.
According to reports, emergency services were called to Bay Road at around 1.30pm on Wednesday 04 August. Police, fire service, the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance and a volunteer lifeboat crew from Red Bay RNLI all responded to the call.
The circumstances surrounding the woman's death are not clear, with reports stating that she either got into difficulty while swimming or perhaps while leaving the water.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor William McCaughey, said: "I am deeply shocked and saddened by the terrible tragedy in Carnlough.
"I want to thank all the emergency services who were involved in this tragic incident, for their efforts in trying to save the lady's life, and I want to pay tribute to their heroic actions.
"On behalf of all the citizens of Mid and East Antrim Borough, I offer my sincere condolences to her family and our thoughts and prayers are with them."

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services
Sinn Féin has called for more to be done to improve mental health services across the north of Ireland. The party's mental health spokesperson, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, made the call after the release of the Registrar General's 2023 Annual Report which has highlighted an increase in deaths by suicide in 2023.

Teenager Dies In River Fall
A 15-year-old teenager has died after falling into a river in Co Londonderry. Emergency services were called to the Roe Valley Country Park near Limavady on Thursday around 4.30pm. The teenager was airlifted to Altnagelvin Hospital, but a PSNI spokesperson said the boy is believed to have drowned after falling into the River Roe.

Two dead and one injured in County Antrim crash
Two people have been killed in a head-on collision in County Antrim. The collision occured on the Ballybogey Road just after 12.35pm on Thursday. One other person has been taken to hospital and is in a critical condition. Police have advised that the Ballybogey Road is closed and that emergency services are at the scene.

Woman 'Stable' After Falling From Cliff At Cavehill
A 20-year-old woman is in a stable condition in hospital after she fell from a cliff at Cavehill in Belfast. Emergency services attended the scene after the woman is believed to have fell from Napoleon's Nose on Wednesday, 23 November. It is understood the alarm was raised at around 2.30pm.
