Two Killed In Crash At Ards Airport
Two people have died in a light aircraft crash at Newtownards Airport at around 20:20 last night, Tuesday 10 July.
Two emergency crews from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene on the Portaferry Road.
An investigation has been launched by Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) inspectors to establish the circumstance of the collision.
Ulster Unionist MLA for Strangford, Mike Nesbitt, expressed his shock at the tragic deaths.
He said: "The Ards airfield is a fixture of the town, situated right on the edge of the urbanisation, not miles and miles from the town centre. So, on a daily basis we are all used to seeing light aircraft and helicopters overhead.
"This is above all a human tragedy and our thoughts are with the family members and friends who have lost loved ones."
