Mivan signs £2m Thai contract
Antrim-based construction company, Mivan has signed a £2 million contract to help build houses in Thailand.
The contract, which was agreed during the recent Invest Northern Ireland trade mission to South East Asia, will see Mivan (Thailand) build low cost houses in Bangkok in the first phase of Ua Athorn project, a programme being developed by the National Housing Authority of Thailand in the city's sprawling Min Buri district.
The housing project is a central feature of a major investment by the Thai government to improve the living conditions in a capital city which is home to over six million people.
Mervyn McCall, a director of Mivan and leader of the Invest NI mission to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, said Mivan (Thailand) would use the Northern Ireland company’s aluminium formwork technology to build 3,000 houses over the next two years.
“Our formwork system is a proven solution for the construction of a very large number of housing units over a relatively short period," Mr McCall said. "We’ve been working in Thailand for over 10 years and have a strong track record in housing developments.
“I was delighted when Invest NI invited me to lead the mission and to be able to offer other participating companies advice and experience on doing business in this fast developing marketplace.
Welcoming the news, Alan Hingston, Invest NI’s director of Trade, said: “This is very good news for Mivan and a marvellous boost for our drive to encourage many more companies to grasp the opportunities provided by our mission programme to achieve faster and profitable growth by pursuing business in the international marketplace.”
