'Put the kettle on' for charity say Samaritans
One of Northern Ireland's leading charities has called on the general public to "put the kettle on" and raise some much needed funds for a deserving cause.
The Samaritans have asked people to help raise funds and awareness of the charity's work during this year’s Samaritans Week, May 22 to 29, by taking part in their 'Time for Tea' fundraiser. The fundraising initiative is part of a year-long celebration of the Samaritans 50th anniversary with activities and other events scheduled to take place across Northern Ireland.
Samaritans Fundraising Manager for Ireland Declan White said: "On one level, ‘Time for Tea’ is designed to be an enjoyable fundraising event, asking people to get together and have a cuppa. On another level, it represents our belief that people are stronger together, and that even a humble cup of tea, can provide a valuable moment for communication.”
‘Time for Tea’ can take place, anywhere, anytime throughout Samaritans Week. It simply involves getting together with friends or colleagues, having a cup of tea (or whatever beverage takes your fancy) and making a donation towards Samaritans.
Samaritans is providing ‘Time for Tea’ party packs, for those who want to get involved and there is still time to organise an event.

The party's mental health spokesperson, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, made the call after the release of the Registrar General's 2023 Annual Report which has highlighted an increase in deaths by suicide in 2023.
