Six PSNI Officers Assaulted In Strabane
The PSNI have condemned an incident in Strabane in which six officers were assaulted.
Shortly before midnight on Friday, 10 February, officers on mobile patrol stopped two men in the Castle Place concerned that they might need help or medical assistance.
After being stopped, both men became verbally abusive and began to lash out after being placed under arrest.
One of the men assaulted six different officers. Minor injuries were sustained as a result of the incident, which saw the officers kicked, bitten and spat on.
One of the officers was assaulted for a second time during this incident when the second man lashed out.
Both men, aged in their twenties, were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences and remain in custody at this time."
Superintendent William Calderwood said: "In what other job would this happen? These are men and women who are working hard to keep their communities safe and this is how they are treated.
"While we come to work knowing we could be faced with difficult and dangerous situations, it is completely unacceptable that our officers should be assaulted and verbally berated in the most shocking ways for simply doing their jobs.
"We have robust procedures in place to ensure the welfare of our officers and will continue to provide them with any and all support that we can. Thankfully, on this occasion, their injuries were not more serious and they felt well enough to remain on duty.
"But it highlights our message that all assaults on emergency service workers - be that a nurse, doctor, paramedic or police officer – are serious offences and there are serious consequences.
"Assaults on our officers are unacceptable, and will not be tolerated."

Two Men Arrested Over Bomb Found In West Belfast Released
Two men arrested in connection with a bomb found during a security alert in west Belfast have been released unconditionally. A viable bomb was discovered on the Brian's Well Road in Poleglass on Sunday, 15 January. Police said the device was designed to "kill or seriously" injure officers serving in the local community.

Two Men Attacked With Baseball Bats In Co Antrim
Two 18-year-old men have been attacked with baseball bats in Whitehead, Co Antrim. The victims were closing premises in the Balmoral Avenue area at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 04 October when three men assaulted them. Both men were treated in hospital for their injuries. One has been discharged, and the other remains in hospital.
