There Can Be No Tolerance For Hate Crimes – Sinn Féin

Sinn Féin has said that there can be no tolerance for hate crimes, amid an increase in reports of incidents in South Belfast and across Northern Ireland.

South Belfast MLA, Deirdre Hargey, said: "Reports that hate crimes across the north have risen by more than 44% in just five years, and in South Belfast have more than doubled, is deeply concerning.

"It is also concerning that people are reluctant to report race hate attacks to police and I would encourage anyone to report any such incidents to the PSNI.

"I will continue to engage with our minority ethnic groups to ensure their concerns are addressed and to help build an inclusive community.

"There can be no tolerance for racism or hate crimes and no one should be targeted because of their race, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or identity."
