Two PSNI Officers Injured In Collision In Dungannon
Two police officers have been treated in hospital after their patrol car was struck by another vehicle in Dungannon in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 25 October.
At around 2am, a PSNI patrol had observed a black BMW travelling along the Killyman Road at around 2am. As police turned with an intention to signal for the car to stop, the BMW made off from police at speed before colliding with a second stationary police vehicle at the junction of Far Circular Road.
The police driver was injured and required hospital treatment whilst the police officer in the passenger side sustained an injury to their calf.
The driver of the BMW was arrested at the scene for offences including dangerous driving, no insurance and no driving licence. He remains in police custody at present.
DUP Calls On Govt To Intervene On Healthcare Pay Issues
The DUP has called on the government to intervene to address the ongoing pay issues impacting upon local healthcare workers.
At a meeting of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee today DUP Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart challenged the Secretary of State to ensure public services in Northern Ireland were properly funded.
The DUP representative said: "Our nurses and healthcare workers deserve better from the Government. They watch whilst those doing the same jobs in other parts of the UK are given a pay increase, but have to listen to the Secretary of State and others wash their hands of the issue.
"Be in no doubt, the Government could resolve this issue if it so desired. They have intervened on a number of chosen issues in Northern Ireland in the absence of devolution, but ignored others that have a real impact on many people, not least the issue of public sector pay. The Department of Health has been clear that as the budget currently stands, they do not have the resources to implement a pay award. Other Departments are in the same position, yet the Secretary of State absolves himself of responsibility. When it comes to Casement Park he says 'we'll get the money, don't you worry' but snatches hard earned money from the grasp of nurses. It is shameful.
"Northern Ireland's public services are underfunded, and the Secretary of State was left in no doubt today what he needs to do – step in, and step in now. Deliver this money for local healthcare workers and do the right thing."
City Hall Reception Welcomes U.S. Special Envoy to Northern Ireland
Belfast Lord Mayor Councillor Ryan Murphy hosted an City Hall reception to welcome U.S. Special Envoy to Northern Ireland, Joseph Kennedy III and his Senior Business Delegation.
Attended by a wide range of city and regional partners and business representatives, guests also included several One Young World ambassadors, along with recent graduates from Belfast City Council's Employment Academies; representing the city's young leaders and strong talent pool.
Lord Mayor Councillor Ryan Murphy said: "We've been looking forward to supporting this delegation since President Biden announced it during his visit to Belfast in April. It's a welcome opportunity to celebrate the many very special connections we have with the U.S. from diplomatic relations to investment, knowledge sharing, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.
"It's given us a platform to proudly showcase our city's transformation, our investment proposition, our strengths in tech, innovation, talent, education, the creative and screen industries, and more. We've also shared our exciting plans for our year of culture, Belfast 2024, hosting EURO 2028 and creating the landmark city centre visitor attraction, Belfast Stories.
"Our strength sectors are set for continued growth, thanks to the £1bn Belfast Region City Deal programme of investment over the next decade – and we're supporting that with skills programmes to connect people to new and better jobs and services.
"We've set out a giant and bold ambition for this city in The Belfast Agenda – including attracting an additional 66,000 residents by 2035; and we'll soon be going out to seek a long-term master developer partner to develop residential-led, mixed-use schemes to the value of over half a billion pounds to catalyse that growth.
"With the help of our friends and investors, we'll achieve our city ambitions and improve quality of life for everyone living here."

Investigation Launched After Heroin And Cash Seized In Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after discovering heroin and a sum of cash in Belfast city centre. Four wraps of the Class A drugs were found in bushes on Wednesday, 30 November. Police also seized a sum of cash. The PSNI are continuing with their enquiries.

Police Issue Appeal Over Attempted PSNI Murder
The PSNI has issued an appeal to the public regarding the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer and his family at their home in east Belfast on Sunday 30 December. Detectives from Serious Crime Branch want to speak to late night revellers who got taxis in Belfast city centre that weekend.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.

The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.
